Description:

The State University of New York (SUNY) is a national leader in providing foundational education for prospective engineers – and lifelong learning for those seeking to add new skills and/or competencies throughout their careers. To meet the needs of the semiconductor and broader microelectronics industry today, many SUNY campuses partner with other NYS and federal agencies as well as private businesses to integrate agility and flexibility into workforce development coursework and programming. Staff constantly monitor emerging trends, invest resources, and adapt programs and delivery to ensure students receive instruction that prepares them for entry into, or progression through, their careers. As we look to the future, SUNY campuses are working together along with partners from the New York State Department of Labor, and the more than 80 academic and industry partners in the ASIC coalition to build a comprehensive set of educational offerings designed to meet the workforce development and continuing education needs of the growing semiconductor industry. This is an unprecedented collaborative effort designed to position New York as a regional hub for the semiconductor industry in the US. One of the unique advantages that SUNY brings to this collaborative is the role that community colleges have to play in educating and training technicians and other facility personnel who are a critical part of the semiconductor workforce. This session will highlight how this collaborative has come together with SUNY’s leadership, how all of the partners are working together, and provide an example of programming at the community college level.
